Moda are inviting local residents to have their say on housing development proposals for the Sackville trading estate and coal-yard. Public exhibition at Honeycroft, Sackville Road, Hove BN3 3WF.

  • Tue 18th September (3pm-6pm), and
  • Wed 19th September (4pm-7:30pm)

All of the homes will be rental and Moda has said 43,000 sq ft of commercial space will be created, bringing, it is claimed, hundreds of new jobs with it.

Moda has teamed up with Mayfield, a care provider, to also create an additional 250 homes for elderly people in the area.

A Moda spokeswoman said: “Under draft designs, Moda will create a highly-connected walkable garden community with homes wrapped into large areas of landscaped green space and public realm.

“The development will also include new recreation and employment opportunities, helping to meet the aspiration of the city council and local neighbourhood forum to create a vibrant and integrated community in this part of Hove.

“Mayfield’s provision accommodates an ever-growing need for specialist high quality residential provision as the UK population lives longer.

“Both Moda and Mayfield will both build and manage the development, working to create a community that promotes long-term, healthy, diverse and sociable living environments.”

Moda is currently developing more than 7,000 new homes around the country – but this is the firm’s first project in Brighton.

Developers have promised top quality services for the residents, saying there will be Premier League nutritionists and coaches on hand to ensure they are living in a healthy, sociable environment.

There will also be gardens, roof terraces and entertainment spaces created.

The spokeswoman added:

“As with all Moda developments, there will be a range of on-site amenities with substantial areas of shared space provided, including communal lounges, virtual sports simulators, BBQ roof terraces, and bicycle rental”

“Residents will have access to a car club, semi-private gardens and allotments as well as Premier League nutritionists and coaches following a tie-up with Hero, a digital wellness platform.”

  1. I went to this presentation and spoke to a number of the company’s representatives. I would suggest looking at Moda’s website. This is going to be an elitist development for the young and wealthy – what I would have called YUPPIES a few years ago. They were rather vague about access to the gym, swimming pool etc for non-residents. They were even vaguer about the cost of the rent saying that they don’t really know at this stage. Last year this company secured £85 million in financing from the German bank Deutsche Pfandbriefbank – but they don’t know how much cash they’re going to make ? Some of the tower blocks are proposed to be sixteen stories. There will be limited car parking and those residents that do not secure a place will not be allowed to apply for parking permits. It all reminds me of the dockside developments in London a few years ago. Definitely not aimed at local folks.
