Lidl delivery times in the Goldstone Retail Park

Lidl are opening a new store in the Goldstone Retail Park in Spring 2021. Local residents are objecting to proposed delivery times (planning ref: BH2021/00282) and the precedent it would set for neighbouring retailers and any future businesses here.

Lidl originally requested all time restrictions on deliveries to be lifted (planning application BH2021-03559). This would have allowed lorries to deliver goods 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There were so many objections from the local residents that this planning application was withdrawn.

However, Lidl are now requesting for permission for deliveries 7 am to 9 pm Monday to Saturday and 8 am to 6 pm on Sunday.

Once again, the local residents are very concerned and objections are being posted on the council website. Nearly all the objections are about noise disturbance.

When the new development on Newtown Road, on the site of the former KAP- Peugeot car showroom is built, there will be 148 new flats. These future residents will be situated just metres from the rear of the retail park. They will be the most affected homes, yet any decision will be made before this new housing is built.

If Lidl were to get this planning permission, it would be a precedent for yet more delivery hours, not only for Lidl themselves, but for the neighbouring retailers and for any future businesses here.

Deliveries in the retail park are currently permitted only between 7 am and 6 pm Mon-Sat. Deliveries aren’t allowed on a Sunday at the moment.
